Three VISX S4 Laser Platforms Anchor Our Wavefront LASIK Practice in the San Francisco Bay Area
Serving the diverse vision correction needs of our San Francisco Bay Area LASIK patients means investing in the right diagnostic and laser eye surgery platforms. That's why we offer the industry-leading Wavefront LASIK performance of the VISX Star S4 CustomVue system, the first Wavefront platform FDA-approved for all three prescription types — nearsightedness, farsightedness, and mixed astigmatism.
In the FDA Wavefront LASIK studies, the VISX Star S4 produced the best visual results for nearsighted patients of all lasers:

On the diagnostic side of our practice, we own and operate three Bausch & Lomb Orbscan II corneal topographers and three VISX Wavescan aberrometers.
Here are the details on the laser systems and our other primary surgical and diagnostic tools installed at our San Francisco Bay Area LASIK centers in Daly City, Santa Clara and San Ramon:
VISX® Star S4 Smooth Scan Laser
One of the most advanced laser system available in vision correction surgery, the VISX S4 is FDA-approved for Wavefront LASIK treatment. The S4 offers Active Trak™, an infrared eye tracking systems that follows the eye in all three dimensions. The S4 also offers Variable Spot Scanning™, which uses seven variable-sized beams for faster, smoother and more precise treatments. The Blend Zone™ feature enables a larger treatment area and is available for those with larger pupils, to minimize nighttime glare.
- VISX® Wavescan Aberrometer
Wavescan is the VISX implementation of a wavefront aberrometer. The system works by bouncing a harmless infrared light off your retina. The reflected beam washes over the internal optical structures of the eye, emerging as a light wave. The shape of this wave, or wavefront, is compared to that of the optically perfect eye to create a wavefront error map. This map can be used diagnostically for pre-operative screening and post-surgical analysis, and is also used to generate the surgical plan for Wavefront LASIK treatment on the VISX S4.
Bausch and Lomb® Orbscan II
The most advanced corneal mapping system available. Considered the gold standard in the industry. Simultaneous measurement of the front and back surfaces of the cornea, as well as pupil size and thickness, throughout the entire cornea. Algorithms designed to pick up early stages of corneal diseases to exclude from laser vision correction.
- Kerasonix KSX 1000 Ultrasonic Pachymeter
Advanced, high-precision, ultrasonic instrument for measurement of corneal thickness.
- SciCan Statim 2000 Autoclave
High temperature, high pressure sterilizing machine for surgical instruments.
